Ground Water

Introduction

The Groundwater Division of CWRDM is carrying out research and development on all aspects related to occurrence, movement, assessment, development and management of groundwater resources with emphasis on its relevance to humid tropics in general and Kerala in particular. The activities of this Division are confined to investigations on water and environment, which is one of the major thrust areas of CWRDM, making use of all the available technologies including spatial information systems, geophysics and modeling.

Groundwater Division shall be a scientific division of excellence in undertaking research and development programmes in all spheres of groundwater hydrology especially in the humid tropics of Kerala

To provide all R & D inputs by undertaking advanced and applied research activities on different groundwater aspects which are relevant to humid tropics like Kerala

Major Activities
The Groundwater Division of CWRDM aims at developing a thorough understanding of all aspects related to occurrence and movement of groundwater so as to develop appropriate plans of action for optimal utilization and management of the available groundwater resources. While there is a justifiable emphasis on those aspects of groundwater which are of particular relevance to the State of Kerala, the National and Global perspectives of groundwater development and management are always borne in mind. In order to achieve these objectives the Groundwater Division has been concentrating on activities like,

  • Formulation and execution of research projects in close collaboration with relevant Departments/Agencies at the State and National Levels.
  • Offering consultancy services on groundwater related problems on the basis of specific requests from different Agencies/Institutions
  • Documentation of all research in the form of research/basic data reports and publication of research papers in National/International journals and conferences.
  • Periodic updating of the research priorities and introducing new areas of research based on need and expertise gained.
  • Infrastructure development in terms of manpower and equipment
  • Conducting training in the major areas of groundwater development and management for the benefit of in service personal belonging to various Government Departments/Agencies.
