CWRDM was established on 21st February 1978 under the Science and Technology Policy of Government of Kerala as an autonomous research institute, and later amalgamated with the Kerala Sate Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) in February 2003. It is a matter of great pride that Kerala was the first state in India to establish a network of R & D institutions in the CSIR pattern to cater to the specific developmental needs of the state. Since its inception, CWRDM has made significant contributions towards the development and management of the water resources of Kerala state.
CWRDM is perhaps the only institution in the country functioning with a multi-disciplinary and holistic approach in solving water related problems in the humid tropical conditions. We are justly proud of our uniqueness!
CWRDM has always striven to help the state solve various problems it faces in the water resource development and management sector and also we maintain a strong academic linkage with national and international institutions.
Water being a natural resource of critical importance, the competing and ever increasing demands on the limited resource throw up unprecedented challenges and responsibilities on the scientists, planners and managers. The problems posed by climatic change, and attendant natural disasters and looming global food scarcity are the major issues the future world has to address.
I firmly believe that CWRDM shall help face the challenges and make significant contributions towards the welfare of the people.
